Research
For the game title logo and menu title UI, I researched some cute game titles for inspiration on bubbly words with some illustrations to complement the title. Nom Noms was particularly similar to the style I was aiming for. The highlights make the fonts look juicy, fit for the game title.
Concept
I wanted to incorporate elements of each player into the title logo. Since both the words 'Fruit' and 'Punch' contained the alphabet 'u'; which could represent 'you', I decided to draw the alphabet with the player's design.
For Player 1, it is a Water-melon and for Player 2, it is a Pine-apple. The colours used were from each player's colour palette, with yellow being the common colour and the representative colour for the Fruits.
Menu
Main Menu
The main menu background shows the Fruit Knights looking towards their goal, which is the Vegetable Kingdom. The background colours are a little faded in order to bring out the contrast from the buttons and title logo.
Each window has a title drawn with the same style as the game title logo, which suits the menu background image.
Pause Menu
The pause menu opens up in the middle and is framed similarly to the main menu. Also added a dark overlay on the game itself, to allow players to focus on the menu without losing the game immersion.
HUD

Indicators
The Ping button was created so that players are able to call for the other player, and also easily find where their character is. It also adds to the humour aspect with the VO sound effects.
The ping pops up in a way that is addictive to press and is designed to be spam-able.

Action Prompts
Action prompts are incorporated pictorial tutorials that teach the basic game mechanics to the players. Since Fruit Punch! has interchangeable controls between controller and keyboard, both tutorials are put side by side.
These prompts open up at the bottom of the screen with a translucent background so that it does not block off much of the game itself.

Unlockables
These are skills given by the Fruit King as the game progresses.
The UI appears in the middle of the screen, with an unlock effect and skill learnt image. Afterwards, an action prompt to teach the new skill fades in to guide the player.

Cutscenes
There are some cutscenes in the game which add to the narrative of the game. These start with black bars appearing on the top and bottom of the screens to indicate that a cutscene has started, and players are unable to move.
Thereafter, a character image translates in, and the dialogue appears.
Players are required to press the next buttons together to continue the dialogue.

Dialogues
Dialogues take the form of world space UI and appear above the head of the speaker in the world.
These are simple dialogues that guide the player and are not necessary to the narrative.
